Our Story
Salt Damaged. Beyond Repair. Still here.
For nearly 20 years, my office was underwater.
I came to Koh Tao as a dive instructor and somehow never left. Two decades of boat mornings, logbook evenings, and teaching nervous beginners that yes, you really can breathe down there. I've lost count of the turtles, the sunrises from the dive boat, and the wetsuits I'm not going to say anything about. (There's a shirt for that.)
Diving wasn't my job. It was my whole life: who I was, how I spent every day, and the only place my head ever went properly quiet.
Then I got ill. Properly ill, not "I'll sleep it off" ill. What followed was a fight for my life, more surgeries than I can count on both hands, and a lot of hospital ceilings. I came out the other side. My diving didn't.
Being told you can't do the thing that makes you you is a strange kind of grief. Nobody gives you a shirt for that.
So I made some.
Salt Damaged is for everyone who's been shaped by the sea: the divers, the surfers, the boat bums, the ones with sun-bleached hair and dodgy ear canals, who check the vis forecast before the weather. It's every joke I told on a dive boat, every story from a surface interval, and every bit of nonsense only divers find funny, printed on a really good tee.
The name says it all. Salt gets into you and never really leaves. You end up a bit worn, a bit faded, a bit beyond repair, and somehow better for it. I know the feeling.
I can't get back in the water. But if one of my shirts ends up on a dive boat somewhere, being laughed at by someone who gets it, then part of me is still out there with them. And yes, I'll still be judging their trim.
Thanks for being here. Go make some bubbles.
